This day, 32nd anniversary of the German thrust in the Ardennes in 1940, was the most intense air to air combat in the Vietnam war, initiated by American efforts to logistically choke off the then ongoing Offensive by the NVA in the South.

Notice, the unreliability of missiles in that era. But also, how relatively light strikes using first generation smart bombs had disproportionate, highly effective impact on the NVA's offensive capabilities. END
